Ben
says: "I've opted to show a number
of different styles here, which in the illustration field is
a real no-no. However, as an illustrator and a designer, I've
done work that is more broad-based than just one set look. One
way I work around the drawbacks of having more than one style
of illustation
is to actually use a different name for each style. The kids-oriented
work (like the space-guy stuff and the animals) is Ben Fishman
Illustration (with postcards sent out under that name), and the
collage style is Artifish, Inc. (again, with separate promo materials).
It hasn't caused me problems, as I keep the styles
pretty segregated. And I'm always careful to ask clients what look
they're after."
"Working in multiple styles has helped me in that it keeps things
a bit fresher for me, rather than having to always produce the "same-old,
same-old" look all the time. And I'd like to think that it's
broadened my potential reach."
